Penny Wars will run through Friday, February 23, 2018 for students in grades 7-12.  Rules are as follows:  COINS ONLY- The object of the game is to get as many pennies into your class bucket as you can.  The twist is to sabotage other classes with silver coins.  Deposit quarters, dimes, and nickels in other classes buckets to deduct from their total.  (Example:  1 quarter deducts 25 pennies) The class with the highest total will win a prize TBD.  Buckets are located in Mrs. Kappes’s room- please deposit before/after school or in between classes.

  • Peer Helpers will meet THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd during lunch in Mrs. Kappes’s room.  We will be discussing March and April counseling sessions.
  • Meeting for Clay Target League Monday during lunch in the conference room. Please remember you will need to get Steve your $35.00 by Tuesday.
  • Please turn in box tops, Kens, and Kessler receipts for the spring collection by Wednesday, February 21st. Thanks for supporting the Leola PTO and keep collecting!!

The movie “Boss Baby” will be played in the 2nd grade room on Friday, February 23rd at 3:30 PM.  Please let classroom teacher if your child plans on staying, if we don’t hear from you we assume they aren’t staying.

Nominated teachers must:

  • be a fully certified teacher;
  • be employed by a South Dakota accredited school district - pre-kindergarten through grade twelve;
  • have at least 3 full years of teaching experience;
  • be planning to continue in an active teaching status (supervisory and administrative responsibilities are secondary considerations) for at least 2 more years;

And should:

  • Have a superior ability to inspire students of ALL backgrounds and abilities to learn;
  • Be an exceptionally skilled and dedicated classroom teacher;
  • Have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues;
  • Play an active and useful role in the community as well as in the school; and
  • Be poised, articulate, and have the energy to withstand the demanding schedule that would accompany selection as the South Dakota Teacher of the Year.


 

National Title I Distinguished School

Each year, only two schools in the state receive this national recognition. As a result, this is a particularly impressive honor for the students, staff, parents, and community. Leola Elementary School received this prestigious honor based on category two; closing the achievement gap between student groups.
